In order to design piping system, piping designer must be familiar with hydro test equipment and procedure. Not only placing vents and drains is important, but also piping system as whole must be design in the way that hydro test can be carried out.
High points vents and low point drains are a small but important and necessary detail of the piping system in a process plant. Very often they are neglected or missed, even by senior piping designers. Installing vents and drains after pipe has been installed usually result in additional costs which can be very high in the case of alloy piping.
Piping system for process piping is prefabricated in the a sections called pipe spools. The figure below is snapshot taken from one of my drawings, shows typical piping spool.
In this blog I will briefly present bypass valve. Although this topic is more on process side, piping designer should be familiar with it.
